I’m a mom. People have told me over the years how rewarding it is, how they’ve never loved anything so much, or how it has changed them.
Well, those people were absolutely right. And I couldn’t have sincerely understood it until I’d experienced it myself. Becoming a mother will change you. For me, it has changed me for the better. I’ve felt more emotions in this short time as a mother than I have in all my life. Of course it’s not always laughter and tears of joy. It’s exhausting, and it brought out in me, a scary, fire breathing dragon that I never knew existed in me (especially when the kids call for you in the middle of the night)!
Every year, we celebrate Mother’s Day for all the moms in our family. With so many grandchildren now in the family, gatherings are that much more important, and that much more chaotic! Two days away and we are still deciding where we want to take our mom, but I know we’ll come up with something fun for adults and kids. Vancouver is a busy city on Mother’s Day. Here are some ideas and places we love on momma’s day.
- IDEAL for me would be to SLEEP IN and start off with breakfast made by husband and kids!
- Brunch at a hotel restaurant -various hotels have special Mother’s Day brunch menus (Pan Pacific, Wedgewood, Sutton Place, Fairmont hotels)
- Afternoon tea (Faubourg, Urban Tea Merchant, High Tea at the Castle)
- Dim Sum at one of our favorite chinese restaurants (Kirin, Sun Sui Wah are good ones)
- This weekend is supposed to be full of sun! A perfect day for a BBQ/picnic at a park! (Stanley Park has great picnic areas, North Vancouver’s Deep Cove, Rocky Point Park in Port Moody)
- My mom loves gambling! Hastings Park Racecourse: Mother’s Day at the Race
Where have I been?
I apologize for the long absence here on my blog! Life has been busy being a mom, raising kids and keeping house. Each day passes by so quickly when everything is about routine, and when you have only a couple of hours to yourself at the end of each day, it’s all about catching up on the tv shows, eating those cookies you’ve been eyeing all day, but don’t want to eat in front of the kids.
I will start 2012 fresh! A newly updated blog – English lessons, Vancouver highlights, a kids page for the mommies and daddies, and lots more! If you have any lingering English questions, ideas about what you want to see on my blog, what you want to know about my city, Vancouver, or want to share your comments, I welcome them all! So please stay tuned!
xoxo, Yuko
